in the spotlight: guayana toile.

It’s hard to have an appreciation for any kind of design, unless you’ve learned to love the classics, and there’s nothing more traditional than toile. Not only are the busy fabrics lovely, they’re also great storytellers: Their pretty patterns depict everything from animals and flora to battlefronts and romantic, courtly scenes. But that doesn’t mean the book has closed on what they have to offer; Gaston y Daniela have written a new chapter with their Guayana fabric—an update on a traditional toile that uses delicately rendered botanical elements to channel the old with a hint of the modern—and it’s one that design darling Grant K. Gibson has already dog-eared for future projects.
