design dialogue: brandt & pascuzzi.

PHOTOGRAPHY BY ROBERT HUGHIE

When we first laid eyes on the über-cool wallpaper of Miami-based designer Phoebe Brandt and artist Carl Pascuzzi, our hearts sped up a bit. Not only is the duo gorgeous, but the products their company, EDGE Wallcoverings (the acronym stands for Exceptional Design Goes Everywhere), produces are just as easy on the eyes. Pascuzzi uses computer-generated images to produce quirky patterns, merging everything from flowers and snakeskin to jewels and even people. “Inspiration is everywhere,” Pascuzzi says. With a wall-and-floor tile line, a scarf collection and home textiles, the design world is at the twosome’s fingertips. “It’s morphed into something bigger than we anticipated,” says Brandt. Lucky for us; now, if only our hearts would quiet.

How would you describe your work and your approach to it?
PB: Our work is a combination of art meets design. We’re always thinking of new ways to use our product that can compliment any setting. I would describe it as unique, and hopefully, one would agree, stunning.

What is inspiring you now?
CP: Sleek, modern, well-lit architectural spaces that are natural showcases for contemporary art and design.

What would someone be surprised to know about you?
PB: I have a bachelor’s in finance from Boston College.

Name your favorite hotel, and tell us why you love it.
PB: I have the best memories of The Four Seasons in Whistler, British Columbia. Their ski concierge brought the sport to a whole new level.

What are your top entertaining dos and don’ts?
CP: Set the mood with music and lighting.

What do you bring to a dinner party that any host would love to receive?
PB: I love to buy flowers from a warehouse and do a special arrangement I design myself for the host. I’ve always loved flower arranging. I learned a lot about the craft when I spent a summer in Nantucket working at Flowers at the Boardinghouse.

Eames or Mackintosh. Why?
CP: Eames. I dream about their lounge chair covered in our textiles.
